If you have been a regular reader of this blog, you may remember this post concerning an entertaining article from Etude Magazine (if you haven’t seen it, you must go look at it now). Etude Magazine was a music magazine published in the late 1800s to the 1950s. As a music nerd it is interesting to read about their perspectives, since they lived during the time when some of the great composers were composing. Sometimes they wrote humorous articles (some of which weren’t meant to be humorous). The following is an excerpt from one of the humorous articles, which appeared in the October 1926 issue. Here’s the title:

Don’t! An Article for Budding Professionals

He introduces the article by saying that these tips should be common sense yet so many musicians fail to recognize these things they keep doing. These are the highlights of his tips for pianists:

Next time you browse classical music on YouTube, watch for these things (especially the last two). You would be surprised how many professional pianists do these things.
